Module 6

PLANNING STEPS TO WORK with THE LOSS: LIN’S EXAMPLE

Lin was avoiding lots of areas like looking at photos of Mum, thinking about, and talking about Mum.

To work on this, Lin thought about some steps to approach an area Lin had been avoiding, of looking at photos and talking about Mum.

Step 1: Write down the thought, image, memory, area or place you are going to look at.
Looking at photos of Mum and talking to my family about Mum.
Step 2: Break it down into smaller sections. Arrange them from easiest to hardest (0-10).
1 Think about which photos of Mum I will look at.
2 Open folder with photos of Mum in it.
3 Look at a group photo with Mum in it for a very short time (less than 1 minute).
4 Look at a group photo with Mum in it for longer (5 minutes or more).
5 Look at photo with just Mum in it for longer (5 minutes or more).
6 Put up photo of Mum in my bedroom.
7 Talk to Gran for a short time about Mum (5 minutes).
8 Talk to Dad for a short time about Mum (5 minutes).
9 Talk to Gran for a long time about Mum (30 minutes or more).
10 Talk to Dad for a long time about Mum (30 minutes or more).
